Robert Wiene
Wiene started and ran his own production for a few years after his work on Genuine and before returning to Austria, where he took over direction of the Wiener Pan-film company. He worked in film until the end of his life in 1938, leaving behind a long and diverse filmography. Yet, all of the works that Wiene produced in the later part of his career were overshadowed by Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari, much the way George Lucas’s work is overshadowed by Star Wars. Interestingly, he tried and failed to produce a remake of Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari in 1937, the details of which are still unclear. He died in Paris on 17 July 1938, ten days before finishing a spy movie called Ultimatum.
Rob Zombie's video “Living Dead Girl” plays on the role of Dr. Caligari and incorporates scenes from the film.
